All students must register for 4 credits worth of AMATH 600 (Independent Research or Study) spread over at least two quarters. To satisfy this requirement, contact a faculty member and agree on a topic of reading under their direction. Typically, they will ask you to write a term paper summarizing your findings at the end of it all.
